Other Clinical Trials Experience

Pharmacology Therapies in a Heart Failure Unit, 2000 - 2005
Department of Internal Medicine – Hospital Clínico San Carlos. Madrid (Spain)
- Oversaw a clinic that aimed to reduce hospital admissions due to arrhythmia caused by irregular patient usage of prescribed cardiac medications. Prescribed and monitored the use of arrhythmia drugs, treated anemia, avoided the use of NSAIDs, decreasing new incidences of heart failure as well as hospitalizations due to heart failure. Effective treatment of hypertension decreased the occurrence of left ventricular hypertrophy and cardiovascular mortality, as well as reduced the incidence of acute heart failure episodes.
- Longitudinal study of beta blockers in a geriatric inpatient population with heart failure. Discovered current patterns of beta blocker usage in hospitalized patients, concurrent to hospitalization as well as after. Evaluated factors involved in determining beta blocker dosage.

Clinical and echocardiographic evolution of a Heart Failure Unit’s patients, 2000 - 2005
Department of Internal Medicine – Hospital Clínico San Carlos. Madrid (Spain)
- Study patients were enrolled in a program of lifestyle modification consisting of moderate sodium restriction, weight monitoring, adherence to rest and self-monitoring of physical symptoms. Clinical evaluations included 12-lead ECGs, vital sign and clinical laboratory results monitoring.
- The primary focus of this clinic was the control of cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, atherosclerotic disease and early detection of cardiac structural anomalies. This resulted in a significant reduction in emergency department visits and inpatient hospitalizations.
